Well, the music changed yet again and so did the dance...
I think it was 10th September 2026 exactly (if memory serves) when my settlement in the UK was approved. 2 weeks in (roughly), I have had a chance to pause, reflect, say a prayer and come back here to add this life update which I write on a mid-week evening after watching the day turn into night from my window in flat 504 in Kidbrooke which I now (share) own.
I am not at all the girl who used to write this blog with great intricacy or seriousness- so please do bear with what would appear to be a minimum effort write-up. That girl poured her heart into writing about every single milestone she could set and achieve. That girl also had a less foggy mind and was definitely less distracted by every sound and sight around her. That girl was not 34. This girl on the other hand, turned 34 one week ago.
God, it is unreal to think how far I have come. It is easy to think of this as something thousands of others have done- leave home, moved and found a home in an entirely new country and settled there. But this is my story and it is genuinely a miracle I'm here today. Its a result of being picked over and over and over and over again as God's favoured child, when there was no deserving it.
As I let myself sit still and think of it, I have flashbacks- that day in JMC when I was placed with KGS, that day I first arrived at KGS, those subsequent years of living with a humble but real monthly income, life in Delhi- commute from Nasirpur to Gurgaon every day thinking if it will ever get better, going through endless rounds of exams after exams after exams without knowing if i will ever qualify, the miraculous breakthrough of moving to Sydney, the confusion of why life there never felt 'it' and still managing to have experiences that shaped and moulded me into a real person, that last night in 2016 while leaving Leeds, that last night in last call with Merlyn aunty at the airport before flying out to the UK and the first morning in Flat 74 after arriving in London in 2021. Today, exactly 5 years later and at the end and start of a new phase in this city with a qualification in my pocket, a miracle job and a home I call my own...I just feel so grateful for every single of those experiences. And so grateful that God made sure nothing broke me or kept me from going on.
34 is roughly a mid-point of my 'useful life' (oh the accountant speaks). God, please continue to call me.
